BLIND TO THE WORLD BEYOND
Life is most disappointing,
most despairing when it is lived as though this world is all we have. Blinded
to the reality of the world beyond, that there is eternity more glorious and
wonderful which is beyond human imagination, our all consuming desire in this
planet is to experience maximum pleasure and prosperity. Quality of life is
measured in accumulating things, ascending to the platforms of power, position,
fame and fortune. Life is defined by having all the pleasures this world can
offer. Large doses of pleasure and comfort shape the pursuit. When eternity is
off screen, all of life is compressed into the distorted assumption that this
is all we have and frankly it’s never quite enough.
Why? Because we are built
for eternity. We are built for an eternal unhindered relationship with God who
created us to know the deep pleasure of His companionship. But sin altered the
landscape and forced this innate longings to search this fallen planet for
satisfaction, instead. Our best experiences are only feeble experiments in
futile attempts to regain paradise lost.
